|
This course is an overview of the history of mining and early pioneer life in the Kawuneeche Valley in what is
now the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The time period covered is roughly 1875 to 1886. Silver
and lead were discovered in small quantities, and much excitement ensued. Two major towns, Gaskill and Lulu
City, were built and many smaller camps and individual cabins were built. Students will learn about these
specific sites and tricks of the trade for finding sites on their own. Techniques for finding old graves and other
sites will be demonstrated and discussed. The history of the area will be discussed
