23rd Annual Dog Weight Pull - During two days of competition the strength of favorite Fidos will be tested as they pull weighted sleds. The dogs pull with a specially designed harness that dispenses weight evenly.

Dogs from four different states; Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska, will gather for weigh in at 10:30 am then start pulling an empty sled weighing 110 lbs at 11:30 am. The dogs are divided into eight separate weight classes, and then the dogs are tested on their ability to pull the sled sixteen feet within one minute. Snow surfaces are tough but even still some dogs can pull over 1000 lbs which can be as much as 10-18 times their own body weight. Dogs pull only for their love of their masters, and if the weight gets too heavy for the dog, it simply will not pull.

The contest is sponsored by the Town of Estes Park and organized by Longs Peak Pullers. The event is sanctioned by the International Weight Pulling Association; a non-profit organization that seeks to promote the heritage of the working dog.
